My 1st Kentucky Derby Recap

The saying goes, there is a first time for everything! Last weekend, I experienced the Kentucky Derby weekend for the first time. It was beyond epic! I had fun meeting lots of people from around the world, that came to watch the most exciting two seconds in sports. The feeling in the air was full of joy, delight, and entertainment! Not only was it a blast to be there, but it was a blast getting dressed up and feeling like a true southern belle! There is no way I would have been styled up to enjoy the Derby weekend as much as I did without some amazing sponsors! My dresses and hats Friday and Saturday, my tote bag Friday, and my parasol Saturday were all made possible by some amazing Etsy shops.

Friday, May 5

The first Friday of every May is Kentucky Oaks. The horses in the races are all female, three-year-old race horses. The weather Friday was chilly and rainy. The high was mid 40’s. The sky was overcast. Despite the less-than-perfect weather conditions, my preppy casual look was perfect for the occasion! My dress is a blue and white seersucker little beauty from Rysa Ruth Designs. I just love the navy sash monogrammed in white! So adorable! My hat is a pink and tan fascinator from Julia Bee Designs. My tote is a green leather purse from Bags and Mood.

Despite the rain, I never let it get me down. I had a spectacular time at Kentucky Oaks!

Saturday, May 6

The first Saturday of every May is the Kentucky Derby. The horses in the races are all male, three-year-old race horses. The weather Saturday was a bit nicer, no rain during the afternoon, but still chilly. The high was mid 50’s. The sky was overcast in the morning and sunny in the afternoon. On Saturday I wanted to add an extra dazzle to my look, so I found a great white lace pair of gloves on eBay for less than $10! My dress is from M Holland. My mini top hat is from MsPurdy. My white and gold parasol is from Parasols by Design. The pink handbag is Ted Baker, I grabbed it from my closet and have had it for years.

Also known as Derby Day, it is one of the most popular sporting events in the calendar year! I found an adorable little cottage serving a lovely brunch and had to snap a picture on the porch near the swing before heading to Churchill Downs.

All outfit items were sponsored, and the links are below! Be sure to check all the Etsy shops out to see the stylish clothing and accessories they sell!

It has been forever since I have gone to a horse race, all the “local” tracks have closed down through the years. They are fun, aren’t they?
